Heart #6

When somebody loves you they will do what is needed to keep you from all harm. Like a good dad and mom will discipline you when you do something wrong. It teaches you what to do and not to do while also keeping you safe. God also does this with His children:

Deuteronomy 8:5
5 You should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the Lord your God chastens you.

God does this not to be mean but to show us His ways. He knows what is best for us and for this reason will discipline us when needed. We have to have the smarts to understand when this is happening! here are a couple of other verses that teach us about God's discipline:

Hebrews 12:6
6 For whom the Lord loves He chastens,
And scourges every son whom He receives.”

Proverbs 13:24
24 He who spares his rod hates his son,
But he who loves him disciplines him promptly.

Psalm 89:32
32 Then I will punish their transgression with the rod,
And their iniquity with stripes.

Proverbs 10:13
13 Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has understanding,
But a rod is for the back of him who is devoid of understanding.

Proverbs 22:15
15 Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child;
The rod of correction will drive it far from him.

Proverbs 23:14

14 You shall beat him with a rod,
And deliver his soul from hell.

So for those who say it is wrong to give whippings, argue with God. He gives them and tells us to do the same. I am thankful for the correction I received growing up and am thankful for the correction God is still giving me to keep me close to Him!

So this morning may our hearts be thankful for discipline and may we pray that our society will go back to what God has taught us so that respect, honor, and obedience will return everywhere!
