Resurrection Week #3

This silent day. No mention of any activity this day in the gospels. What most scholars believe to have taken place is:

*Jesus prepares for the last supper and most likely spends time in prayer with the Father for events to come.

*Judas and the Sanhedrin prepare for the arrest of Jesus

*Jesus spent the entire day and night in Bethany.

Prepare your hearts and mind for the betrayal of Jesus and the brutal days ahead for Jesus but keep in mind Sunday is coming which means VICTORY!

Let us take some time today to also be silent and still before our Lord and think about this Holy Week and what Jesus did for you and for me!

Psalm 62:1

Truly my soul silently waits for God; From Him comes my salvation.

Psalm 46:10

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

Psalm 62:5

My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him.

Zephaniah 1:7

Be silent in the presence of the Lord God; For the day of the Lord is at hand, For the Lord has prepared a sacrifice; He has invited His guests.

Acts 8:32

The place in the Scripture which he read was this: “He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; And as a lamb before its shearer is silent, So He opened not His mouth.

Resurrection Week #2

As we celebrate the Holy week this week and the main events in Jesus' life let us move to Tuesday. Here is what happened:

A very important teaching of Jesus happened this day, a lesson on faith!

Matthew 21:18-22

The Fig Tree Withered

18 Now in the morning, as He returned to the city, He was hungry. 19 And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, “Let no fruit grow on you ever again.” Immediately the fig tree withered away.

The Lesson of the Withered Fig Tree

20 And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither away so soon?”

21 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done. 22 And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”

Our faith in Jesus and through the Holy Spirit gives us an enormous amount of power through the Holy Spirit. What Jesus is saying here is not whatever we want He will give us, but whatever we do according to His Word will be done such as providing everything needed to share the gospel! How strong is your faith?

Jesus as it seemed was always the case also had His authority questioned this day:

Matthew 21:23-37

Jesus’ Authority Questioned

23 Now when He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and said, “By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority?”

24 But Jesus answered and said to them, “I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things: 25 The baptism of John—where was it from? From heaven or from men?”

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ 26 But if we say, ‘From men,’ we fear the multitude, for all count John as a prophet.” 27 So they answered Jesus and said, “We do not know.”

And He said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

While He confounded the chief priests here he did tell ultimately reveal where His authority comes from:

John 17:1-3

17 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, 2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

Jesus and the Father are one, He has always had authority and always will!

Jesus gave on this day what is known as the Mount of Olives discourse: you can read this in Matthew 24:1-25:46

Main points here are:

*Prediction of temple destruction

*Signs of end of times

*persecution will happen to believers

*Jesus predicts tribulation, false christs, and prophets

* Jesus tells HE IS COMING BACK to gather believers!

*Jesus tells His Words last forever.

*Jesus reveals no one knows the hour of His return except God the Father.

*Jesus reveals when he returns He will judge and separate the goats from the sheep!

Read over these...very important teachings from our Lord!

To close this day out, bad news:

The plot to kill Jesus:

Matthew 26:3-5

3 Then the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the people assembled at the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, 4 and plotted to take Jesus by trickery and kill Him. 5 But they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar among the people.”

And Judas betrays our King:

Matthew 26:14-16

14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?” And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver. 16 So from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him.That still hurts me every time I read it even though I know it had to happen!

So this ends Tuesday of our Holy Week.

Resurrection Week #1

I want to remind us of why this week is important to our faith. Each day I want to remind you what Jesus was up to some 2000 years ago to show His love for you and I.

Starting with yesterday (Sunday March 28, 2021) which we call Palm Sunday:

Matthew 21

The Triumphal Entry

21 Now when they drew near Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me. 3 And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.”

4 All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying:

5 “Tell the daughter of Zion,‘Behold, your King is coming to you,Lowly, and sitting on a donkey,A colt, the foal of a donkey.’”

6 So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them. 8 And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:

“Hosanna to the Son of David!‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’Hosanna in the highest!”

10 And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, “Who is this?”

11 So the multitudes said, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”

The beginning of the end has started as this Holy Week was kicked of by Jesus coming to Jerusalem where He knew what was going to take place but yet He was willing to take our sin upon Himself. Notice the multitudes praising Him now but in a few days notice how many were standing up for Him when He is arrested and tried! Most had disappeared or even turned against Him demanding His crucifixion, talk about flip-flopping!

He then went and spent night in Bethany.

On Monday: the two main points that I grasped that happened are these two:

Luke 19:41-44

Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem

41 Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it, 42 saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. 43 For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side, 44 and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”

Matthew 21:12-17

Jesus Cleanses the Temple

12 Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’”

14 Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant 16 and said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?”

And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read,

‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise’?”

17 Then He left them and went out of the city to Bethany, and He lodged there.

Jesus knows the Jews are and will reject Him as Savior, which cause Him great pain, and destruction is coming thus He weeps.

Jesus sees how the temple is being sinful. Folks are selling sacrifice animals at high prices, and in many cases the animals are not blemish free, thus they are thieves before God!

Then once again He leaves Jerusalem and spends night in Bethany after healing some folks in the temple.

Soak all this in, for followers of Jesus this is the most important week of our faith. Share with others where your hope lies....in Jesus!

Know the Word of God.

Be careful when you hear folks tell the gospel or preach the Word of God that it matches what God's Word actually says!

Galatians 1:9

As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

It is s serious issue to tell others what God's word says. If we don't know what we are talking about we are to be accursed! So this means we need to be in the Word our selves and know what it says so we speak the truth!

Know the Word of God!!!!

The Lord is my everything!

 Read this verse:

Exodus 15:2

The Lord is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation;
He is my God, and I will praise Him;
My father’s God, and I will exalt Him.

1. God is my strength.

2. The Lord is my theme song.

3. The Lord is my salvation.

4. The Lord is my God.

5. I will praise my Lord.

6. God is the faith of my family.

7. I will exalt my God for He alone is worthy.

The Lord is my everything! Is He yours???

That's my God!

This is an awesome verse!

Psalm 147:5

Great is our Lord, and mighty in power;
His understanding is infinite.

1. God is great!

2. God is mighty!

3. God knows everything!

That's my God! He knows me and I know Him. Do you know Him?

Trust Him!

How many times could Jesus have said this to you????

John 13:7

Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”

Remember God is in control. He always knows what is best. He loves you! We just need to trust Him. Remember in the end for those who follow Him we will be in heaven for eternity with Jesus!!! Jesus knows what He is doing!!!

Closer to God

A key to our spiritual walk with the Lord:

James 4:7-8

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

1. Submit to God-totally surrender yourself to God not the world

2. Resist the Devil-fight Him with the Word and don't give in

3. Draw near to God-spend much time in prayer and bible study

4. Clean and purify-confess and sin and strive to sin no more

We are to flee the world and submit to God in all areas of out lives!!! Draw closer to God and He draws closer to you! What a promise!!!

Remember who is leading!

We think we are in control of our lives but in reality we are not!

James 4:13-15

13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— 14 yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”

We need to be concerned with the Lords will primarily in our lives. For we are immortal until God says we are done on this earth. We get to concerned with the things of this world that will not last instead of the things that will last for eternity....saved souls and loving others!

So let's get focused on God's agenda for He is in control and leading!

Are you a serrvant of the Lord?

Look at how God tells His servants to behave:

2 Timothy 2:24-25

24 And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, 25 correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth,

A servant:

1. Is not to argue back and forth

2. Is to be kind to everyone

3. Abnle to teach God's Word

4. Patient even at being treat in evil manner

5. Correct those that are wrong gently

The purpose of us doing these things is to lead others to Jesus by being like Jesus as His servant.

So how are you ding as a servant? Let's do waht God says and bring folks to Jesus!

God has a purpose for you!

Remember that God made you for a reason and He has a purpose for you!!!

Psalm 57:2

I cry out to God Most High,

to God who fulfills his purpose for me.

Since God has  purpose for you, He is the One to whom you should seek and cry out too, so you can fulfill those purposes. He will help you do His will in your life. Seek Him with all your heart!!! He is worthy of our lives in service to Him!!!

Great love equals mercy.

Read these verses:

Ephesians 2:4-5

But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

We need to remember:

1. God is rich in mercy-we deserve death and hell in our sins.

2. God is love-because of His love for us He sent Jesus to save us.

3. We are alive in Christ-He took our sins to the cross and for those who put their faith in Him we are eternally alive in Jesus!!!

Praise the Lord today for with out His great love and mercy for sinners like you and I we would have no hope but Jesus has given us victory!!!!

The ONLY place to look!

Hebrews 12:2a+b

2a+b looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith

In life there is only one place to look for faith and guidance......Jesus!!! He made all so He The Author! Then He finished it all by dying on the cross defeating sin and death by His shed blood and rising up on that third day....alive!!!

Look to Jesus He is the solution to all!!!

Jesus will sustain you.

Somebody needs to be reminded of this today:

Psalm 55:22

22 Cast your burden on the Lord,
And He shall sustain you;
He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

For those who have called upon Jesus as Lord and Savior He wants us to cast out burdens upon Him! He will see us through and know that He will take care of those who follow Him! That is comforting to know!!!

Oh how Jesus loves us!

The Master is coming.

The Master (Jesus) is coming soon are you ready?

Mark 13:35-37 New King James Version (NKJV)

35 Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming—in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning— 36 lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. 37 And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!”

Be ready and watching. Jesus is coming soon! Have you put your faith and hope in Him as Lord and Savior? Time is ticking. Do it now for when He comes it will be too late and you will be judged with the lost and sent to hell!

Praise the Lord Jesus is coming soon....are you ready???

Pray the Word to God.

A good practice for us to have is to use scripture as a prayer back to God. Here is a couple verses we should pray to God often:

Psalm 139:23-24

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me, and know my anxieties;
24 And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.

As followers of Jesus we want to be Holy and to be Holy we need God's help to search us and then reveal to us our sins. So we can confess them up and be right before God!

Thank you for Your Word Lord! Help us to use your guidebook to draw us closer to you each and everyday!!!

What do your works say?

While it is faith in Christ alone that saves a person, when one is saved works for the Lord will show if true conversion has taken place. Look at this verse:

Titus 1:16

16 They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.

These folks said they knew God but their works proved they did not. In other words the things they did denied kn owing Him because they did things God says not to do and did not do the things God said to do!!!

So what are our works saying? Saved or not???

Yes I will!

Matthew 12:21

21 And in His name Gentiles will trust.”

We are born either a Jew or a Gentile. The Jews are God's Chosen people in whom His plan of redemption for all was executed through the person of Jesus! His plan included the Gentiles as well.

Thank God for giving all the opportunity to be a child of God! I am a Gentile and I trust Jesus with my life!!! Do you???

Comfort and edify!

As followers of Jesus, let's do this if we are not in the habit of doing so!

1 Thessalonians 5:11

11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.

We all have times where we need to be comforted so lets be aware of others who need the same and give that comfort when needed! We also need to be built up as this world tries to tear us down. May we edify others and let them know how loved they are and are needed by God and by us. The best item to use to comfort and encourage is the Word of God. For God has given His Word to us for that very purpose! So use it!

We need more folks to be encouragers and comforters in this world of ours...may that be you and I.

Tom
