What you need to know about Islam.

What you need to know about Islam.

Today I am starting a look at Islam. There are many things we as followers of Jesus and non-followers need to be aware of about Islam and what the Quran teaches. I do not claim to be an expert on Islam but will try to give you the very basics.

Most of my information comes from a book written by Mark A. Gabriel, which is a name he took after converting to Christianity. Mustafa was his first name. He was a conservative Muslim in Egypt and had memorized the Quran by age 12. He went on to earn a doctorate degree from Al-Azhar University and was given a teaching position. Al-Ahar University is the oldest, and most prestigious university in the world on Islam. Mark got his degree in history and culture so he knows what he is talking about. If you want to go deeper on Islam I highly encourage you to purchase and read his book called Islam and Terrorism.

Let’s start out today with a few terms we need to get a good grasp on:

1. Islam-the religion of the Muslims, a monotheistic faith as revealed through Muhammad as the Prophet of Allah.

2. Muslim-a follower of the religion of Islam.

3.Quran or Koran-the Islamic sacred book, believed to be the word of God as dictated to Muhammad by the archangel Gabriel and written down in Arabic. The Koran consists of 114 units of varying lengths, known as suras ; the first sura is said as part of the ritual prayer. These touch upon all aspects of human existence, including matters of doctrine, social organization, and legislation.

4.Muhammad-Arab prophet and founder of Islam. Muslims regard him as God's messenger through whom the Koran was revealed. Muhammad established a theocratic state at Medina after 622AD and began to convert Arabia to Islam.

5. Allah-(Islam) Islam the Muslim name for God; the one Supreme Being

Tomorrow we will look at the cultural background of where Muhammad came from as it helps us get a mindset of how the culture influenced his thought process.

Co-heirs

“Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭17‬ ‭

Really think on what this verse is saying. If you are a true child of God then you are a co- heir with Jesus. Everything that God shares with Jesus He will share with us. Our earthly minds can’t even comprehend what all that means but trust me it will be beyond our wildest imagination!!! But don’t miss the last part…if we share in His sufferings which means doing the work God calls us to no matter the cost! Share the gospel!!!

Who will deliver me?

“O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭7‬:‭24‬-‭25‬ ‭

Our flesh naturally wants to sin. We lust after it. We can’t defeat it on our own. So who will deliver us from sin? ONLY ONE CAN! Jesus Christ the Lord! Call upon Him today before it is too late!

Goal for every new year!

“I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3‬:‭14‬ ‭

There it is brothers and sisters of our glorious Lord Jesus Christ!!!

What our goal is every day of every year! Doing the upward call of God. Share the gospel and love people. For the prize awaits…eternity with God!!!

Don’t abuse grace!

“What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭6‬:‭15‬-‭16‬ ‭

What this is saying is…so I can just go on and sin because Jesus saved me right? NO! Since Jesus saved us by dying for our sins we are now slaves to righteousness not sin. So with the power of the Holy Spirit we live righteousness lives instead of sinning purposely!

Be like Christ!

Peace or no?

““There is no peace,” Says my God, “for the wicked.””

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭57‬:‭21‬ ‭

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.””

‭‭John‬ ‭16‬:‭33‬ ‭

Reread those two verses again…what can we conclude? True peace can only be found by the true follower of Christ. Notice you will still have difficulties as a follower but you still have the peace knowing you are right with God and will dwell with Him forever!!!
