Do you give God your best?

When I think about the question in the title for today's devotion for myself I must answer no. Sometimes I do but not always. Look at this verse:

Colossians 3:23-25

23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. 25 But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality.

Now if you go back and read verse 22 Paul is talking to slaves. In reality we are slaves to Christ. In today's world that word slave brings a negative vibe. But when we refer to our being slaves to the Lord it should not. God's word tells us that we were bought with a price:

1 Corinthians 6:20

For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

That price was the blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who paid for YOUR sins on the cross. That means Christ owns us if we have asked Him into our lives. That is awesome news! I like being owned by God! The part of the verse in Corinthians also says "glorify God in your body and spirit" that goes right along with our verses in Colossians. Whatever we do we should give our all because we are living for the Lord not man. Hmmmm think about that now. In your job, your family, your hobbies, your Bible study, your church attendance, everything! Are you giving all you have for the glory of God. Please stop and think about this...it is not a suggestion from the Word it is a command! Now lets look at the consequences....if we obey and give our all we receive the inheritance from the Lord. We deserve nothing but God blesses obedience. BUT if we don't obey the Word says we will be repaid for what we have done and God shows no partiality! Ouch!

You see my friends God is a jealous God and He wants all of us, which requires we give 100% effort when serving our King. When you serve God you will be blessed! Some will come in this life and some will come in eternity. On the other hand if we fail to serve our King you will not lose your salvation but you will lose blessings. If you have no desire at all to serve the King then you had better be checking your heart to see if you are really a slave of Jesus!

Give God your best today! And everyday!

Tom
