All peace no division myth.

I wanted to address a myth that has been brought onto the church and society. This myth is that as a follower of Christ we are to be all about peace and have no strife or divisions. As Christians we are now at a time where we must speak more than ever as we are slowly being silenced. Look at what Jesus said here and pay close attention to the divisions that sometimes will take place:

Matthew 10:34-37

Christ Brings Division

34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; 36 and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household. 37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.

This also includes friends, co-workers, and society in general. Jesus is saying here that He must be our first love...nothing else! He also said He did not come to bring peace! He knew most will reject Him. One day after He returns and sets up His kingdom there will be peace but not right now. Now it is very important to know what His weapon was....a sword. Now this is not a literal sword it is the Word of God.

Ephesians 6:17

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

We are to battle with God's Word and stand upon it with all that we have. There will be division and whoever says there will not are not reading their Bibles. A key to remember though is to do this will humility and love as our goal is to lead others to Jesus not away from Jesus.

Never, never compromise the sword, the Word of God!
