Revelation #4

Revelation 1:9-11

9 I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation and the kingdom and the patient endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. 10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet 11saying, "Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea."

As we see here John was the one who penned Revelation. Verse 9 tells us he was a brother in Christ and he suffered in the tribulation of the saints. History tells us John was the only one to escape a martyr's death. But he was tortured terribly once being boiled in oil! We see where John was located....on an island called Patmos. He was banished to this island by the Romans because of his incredible faith in Christ! He would not stop preaching the Word of God! I love verse 10! John was on this island alone but it didn't stop him from having church! Of course he wasn't really alone as the God was there with him. As John was worshiping Jesus spoke to him. He told him to write a book! Then he was to send it to the seven churches. As a side note the churches are listed in the order that a courier would have delivered them leaving from Patmos!

May we all be as faithful and obedient as our brother in Christ John! On Monday we will start to look at the individual churches!
