Revelation #5

Let's continue in our study!

Revelation 1:12-16

12 Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, 13and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, 15 his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength.

As John was listening to Jesus speaking to him he turned to look and saw seven golden lampstands...some versions say candle sticks. Verse 20 tells us these lampstands are the seven churches. Soon we will break down each of these churches in the book of Revelation. Verse 13 tells us Jesus was standing in the middle of these churches. Makes sense doesn't it that the cornerstone of the church is in the midst of these churches! John describes his wardrobe. The sash is representative of His royalty and His authoritative priesthood. Then verse 14 reminds us of His sinlessness and purity of our Lord by telling us about his white hair. Like pure snow white! Then we are told of His fire-flame eyes. Don't miss this:

1 Corinthians 3:13

13 each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.

The Holy eyes of Jesus will examine and judge the daily living of everyone!

Bronze or brass is used in Revelation symbolically to represent judgement as is the case here in verse 15 as this verse goes on to say the voice of Christ is as "the sound of many waters" which drowns out the protest of anyone who rejects Christ! In verse 16 three symbols are use:

Seven stars...these are the seven pastors of the churches.

Two-edged sword...Hebrews 4:12 tells us what this is:

Hebrews 4:12

12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Sun...Jesus is the light of the world.

The description of Jesus in these verses are stunning!!! So stunning when we pick up tomorrow we will see how it made John fall to his knees!

See you tomorrow!!!
