Honor God's name.

The other day my daughter who is in second grade came home from school and told me that some kids in her class were using the Lord's name in vain. I wondered what they were saying and if she really understood what that meant. So I asked her what they said. She said they were saying "Oh my God!" She was right! They were using His name in vain. Look at this verse below:

Exodus 20:7

7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.

Usually we think taking God's name in vain is if we use it as a cuss word, which it is but that is not the only way to take the name of God in vain. God is Holy and Righteous and we must uphold His name in every area of our lives. The Jews upheld the name of God so high that they would not even say the word God! When we casually use God's name it is sin and God takes that very seriously as we see in the verse for today. Oh my God, Jesus, Oh Lord, and the list goes on and on when used with out reverence is using God's name in vain! One of the definitions for vain is this: without real significance, value, or importance; baseless or worthless. That does not describe our God!

So my friends let us be very careful in how we handle the name of God for we are told we will be held accountable for this offense!
